It is with great sadness that the Desert Bar Association announces the passing of the Honorable Frank Gafkowksi, Jr.
Judge Gafkowski devoted his life to the legal system that he both loved and admired. Appointed to the bench by the 33rd governor of California, Ronald Reagan in 1973, Judge Gafkowski's original assignment as a bench officer was in the South Gate Courthouse in California.
Prior to his appointment, Judge Gafkowski also worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Tulare County and served as a member of the City Council in South Gate, California. Judge Gafkowski was a proud graduate of the University of Southern California School of Law.
But not even the law could replace his first love, Mrs. Sharlene Gafkowksi. The couple, while tirelessly working for their community, raised four wonderful children, three daughters and one son. The Honorable and Mrs. Gafkowski later became adoring grandparents to twelve beautiful grandchildren and five amazing great grandchildren.
The community at large will feel the loss of Judge Gafkowski's warm personality and quick wit, but his knowledge of both the letter and the spirit of the law will never be forgotten.
