PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

It is a great honor to write this message to a community in which I am blessed to be a member. I hope that I will make proud all those that have come before me. I certainly know that our outgoing President, Tim Ewanyshyn, did an amazing job overseeing the association and making sure the Board of Trustees accomplished all that was expected of them during his tenure and I felt lucky to serve with him.  During my term, I plan to do my best to continue all the traditions that this association has carried forward over the years and find new ways to bring our community TOGETHER.  I would not be the attorney I am today, without the support, camaraderie and mentorship that I received from those I connected with through this bar association.

In this post pandemic world, where “live” events are shrinking, my goal, with our hardworking incoming Board, is to create a year of social activities and education that will give our members both the knowledge that we all desire, as well as the time to develop or enhance personal and professional relationships. These events are important for so many reasons including providing an opportunity to develop our young lawyers into involved members of our profession and our association. I hope each of you will attend some live events whether this is through our regular luncheons, one of our annual events, or through a social gathering where we simply “catch-up” with one another. The Board of Trustees will strive to make events enjoyable and rewarding but we cannot do this without you.

Having seen the benefits of time that people invest in one another, it is my hope that we will increase our outreach to the community with a focus on our youth so that we plant those important seeds for our future membership. A school bus carrying elementary students to the courthouse, sponsored by the Desert Bar Association, may just look like a means of transportation, but it may very serve to spark the interest of a young child that leads them to a path of membership and service in our legal community.

Finally, in these uncertain financial times, our community will need our continued assistance through such programs as the “Lawyer in the Library,” the DBA’s “First Friday” mediation program, and the other programs for which the DBA participates in and facilitates access to justice for our community. If you are not yet involved in a program, please reach out to get involved, we need everyone!

I look forward to serving with our wonderful 2024-2025 Board of Trustees this year and in hearing from each of you as to what you believe will make this year and our DBA, in general, a better community in which to belong.
